About the set

Silver Tempest released on November 11, 2022 as the twelfth and final Sword and Shield expansion. It runs 245 cards: 215 in the main set plus a 30-card Trainer Gallery subset, with 20 secret rares inside that total. Being the closing set of the block, it is the last place several VSTAR and VMAX Pokemon appear.

Lugia VSTAR is the card the set is built around and the one that carried its competitive play. Alolan Vulpix VSTAR, Serperior VSTAR, Unown VSTAR and Mawile VSTAR fill out the VSTAR line behind it.

Why the last set of a block matters

Closing sets tend to hold value better than the sets around them. Print runs taper as the next block is announced, and the cards stay legal in Standard for a full rotation after release, so demand does not fall away the moment the block ends. Silver Tempest is also where several Sword and Shield mechanics get their final printing.

The Trainer Gallery

The 30-card Trainer Gallery subset is full-art artwork pairing Pokemon with the trainers they belong to, and it is the reason a lot of collectors still open this set.
