About Evolutions
Evolutions closed out the XY era in November 2016 by reprinting Base Set in modern frames, and it is the only modern set that does it. Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur return as EX and full-art cards alongside the Base Set artwork collectors recognise on sight, and the secret-rare Charizard sits at the top of the chase list.
The Pokemon Company released Evolutions on November 2, 2016, as the final expansion of the XY Series, built to celebrate 20 years of Pokemon with the look and feel of the classic Base Set and updated game rules. Published card lists run to 113 cards: 108 in the main set plus five numbered beyond it, including Flying Pikachu, Surfing Pikachu, Imakuni?'s Doduo and Here Comes Team Rocket!
The big names come in several versions. Charizard appears as a Base Set style Charizard (11), Charizard-EX (12) and M Charizard-EX (13 and 101). Blastoise-EX (21) and M Blastoise-EX (22 and 102), Venusaur-EX (1) and M Venusaur-EX (2 and 100), and Mewtwo-EX (52 and 103) fill out the top of the list, along with Pidgeot-EX, Dragonite-EX and four BREAK cards: Ninetales, Starmie, Nidoking and Machamp.
