About Obsidian Flames

Obsidian Flames is the third Scarlet and Violet expansion and the set that brought Terastal Charizard ex as its headline card. It runs 197 cards before the secret rares, built around Tera Pokemon ex, and released on August 11, 2023. Published checklists put the full set at 230 cards, 197 in the main set plus 33 secret rares.

The Pokemon Company calls several of its Tera Pokemon ex type-shifted: their Energy type and Weakness change to the new type while their attack costs keep the Pokemon's original type. Charizard ex is the headline example, a Darkness type Charizard here instead of its usual Fire type, with the Infernal Reign Ability and the Burning Darkness attack, which grows stronger as the opponent takes Prize cards. A Fire type Eiscue ex is another.

The chase is the Charizard ex special illustration rare (223/197), with Tyranitar ex, Eiscue ex and the Pidgeot ex SIR running behind it. By card number, published checklists list the Tyranitar ex full art at 211/197, the Eiscue ex special illustration rare at 222/197 and the Pidgeot ex special illustration rare at 225/197. Charizard ex also has a full art at 215/197 and a gold hyper rare at 228/197, and the Revavroom ex special illustration rare sits at 224/197. Which cards land in any pack or box is random.
