About Brilliant Stars

Brilliant Stars is the ninth Sword and Shield expansion and the set that introduced the Trainer Gallery subset, which is where its reputation comes from. The TG Umbreon VMAX and Umbreon V out of that 30 card run are among the most chased cards of the whole era. The set released on February 25, 2022, and centers on Arceus, alongside the arrival of Pokemon VSTAR: each VSTAR has a VSTAR Power, an attack or Ability a player can use only once per game. Arceus, Charizard, Shaymin and Whimsicott all appear as Pokemon VSTAR.

Published checklists put the full set at 216 cards: 172 in the main set, 14 secret rares numbered past 172, and the 30 card Trainer Gallery numbered TG01 to TG30, where Pokemon are paired with Trainers in special art.

The chase

The main set chase is the Charizard VSTAR rainbow secret rare (174/172), with Arceus VSTAR and the Trainer Gallery alternate arts behind it. By card number, published checklists list Umbreon VMAX at TG23 and Umbreon V at TG22, the Arceus VSTAR rainbow at 176/172 and its gold secret rare at 184/172, and a second Charizard V full art at 154/172. Which cards land in any pack or box is random.
