About the set
The Hobbit brings Bilbo Baggins, Thorin's company, Gollum and Smaug into Magic as a Universes Beyond set, with the usual run of rares and mythics alongside borderless and extended-art treatments and traditional foil versions throughout. It released for tabletop play on August 14, 2026, after MTG Arena on August 11 and prerelease events from August 7 to 13, under set code HOB, with its eternal-legal cards under HOC.
The main set is 183 cards: 60 commons, 55 uncommons, 53 rares and 15 mythic rares, with five common dual lands and five default-frame basic lands alongside it.
Inside each Play Booster
- 7 commons
- 3 uncommons
- 1 wildcard of any rarity, which can be a main set card, a scene card, a Dragon hoard card or a book cover card
- 1 rare or mythic rare
- 1 traditional foil of any rarity
- 1 land: a default basic, a Middle-earth journey basic or a common dual land, each with a foil version
- 1 non-foil double-sided token
Wizards puts the rare slot at a main set rare 82.9 percent of the time and a main set mythic 11.1 percent, with rare scene cards at 1.8 percent, rare Dragon hoard cards at 2.3 percent and book cover rares and mythics under 1 percent each. The traditional foil is a common 59.8 percent of the time, an uncommon 29.3 percent, a rare 7.1 percent and a mythic 1 percent.
Booster Fun in this box
Three Booster Fun treatments can come out of Play Boosters: borderless scene cards such as Thorin Oakenshield and The Eagles Are Coming!, Dragon hoard frame cards such as Sting, Bilbo's Sword and Desolation of Smaug, and book cover cards such as Gandalf, Goblins' Bane and The Arkenstone. The Middle-earth journey basic lands turn up in the land slot in foil and non-foil.
Some treatments stay out of Play Boosters. Wizards lists the extended-art cards, the Dwarvish language cards, the surge foil cards and the gleaming gold Smaug the Magnificent headliner as Collector Booster only, and the four seasonal Hobbit lands as Prerelease Pack, Bundle and Gift Bundle only. The Middle-earth classic artist cards come in Collector Boosters and as this box's topper.
Open it or draft it
Play Boosters are the single format built for both cracking packs and drafting, so one display runs a full eight-person draft. Wizards pitches them as the way to find cards for your deck or to sit down for a casual draft.
Pack contents and rates come from the manufacturer's published product information. Manufacturer information and configurations are subject to change and are shown as a guide. Pulls are random and never guaranteed.
