About the set

Journey Together released on March 28, 2025. The theme is bonds between Trainers and their Pokemon, and the mechanic that carries it is Trainer's Pokemon: cards that belong to a named Trainer rather than to a generic species slot. The Pokemon Company International notes that Trainer's Pokemon first appeared in the Gym Heroes expansion and return here.

That is what makes this set distinctive to open. Lillie's Clefairy ex, Hop's Zacian ex, N's Zoroark ex and Iono's Bellibolt ex all pull double duty as playable cards and as character cards, which widens who wants them well beyond competitive players.

The chase

The rarity tiers above the main set run Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares. The official announcement lists four Trainer's Pokemon ex, 16 Pokemon ex, 11 illustration rare Pokemon, six special illustration rare Pokemon and three hyper rare gold etched cards. The Special Illustration Rares are where the set's reputation sits, and the three cards consistently named as its top chases are the Salamence ex SIR, the N's Zoroark ex SIR and the Iono's Bellibolt ex SIR.

Illustration Rares form the Trainer Gallery run, which is the tier collectors tend to complete as a set on its own because the artwork is the point rather than the playability.
