Chilling Reign is the sixth Sword & Shield set, and the one with the deepest alternate-art run of its era. The Galarian legendary birds and the Blaziken and Gengar alternate arts are what the set is hunted for. Out of print since 2021.

About the set

The Pokemon Company released Sword & Shield Chilling Reign on June 18, 2021. The set draws on the Crown Tundra and is led by King Pokemon Calyrex in its Ice Rider and Shadow Rider forms, alongside Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres. The official release lists eight Pokemon VMAX, 15 Pokemon V and 26 full-art Pokemon V, 28 Trainer cards and 13 full-art Supporter cards, and three new Special Energy cards.

The alternate art chase

The main set is numbered to 198, and published checklists run it to 233 with the secret rares. The alternate art Pokemon V sit inside the main numbering, including Galarian Articuno V (170/198), Galarian Zapdos V (174/198) and Galarian Moltres V (177/198), with Ice Rider Calyrex V (164/198) and Shadow Rider Calyrex V (172/198) beside them. The alternate art VMAX cards sit above 198: Blaziken VMAX (201/198), Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX (203/198) and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX (205/198). Rainbow rare VMAX and Supporter cards and gold secret rare items fill out the top of the list.
