The set
Topps built the set around a 72 card checklist: 41 cards of scenes from the feature, 18 cards from the Pikachu's Vacation short that ran with it, 12 Evolution cards and a checklist. The Evolution cards cover the Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Dratini lines, three stages each. Every card on the checklist also comes in a silver foil and a rainbow foil version. The movie run opens with Legends (1) and Awakenings (2) and includes Mechanical Mewtwo (6), The Temple Of Mewtwo (18) and The Story Of Mewtwo (24).
Movie Animation Edition cards cover the film's story and cast: Mewtwo, Mew, Ash, Pikachu and the rest of the movie lineup, with foil parallels available in the set.
The chase
Thirty bonus chase cards sit outside the 72 card checklist: 12 die-cut embossed Evolution cards, built on the same Pokemon as the Evolution subset, and 18 sticker cards whose backs form pieces of a Mewtwo or Ash puzzle. Collectors also track two printings. First printing cards carry a blue Topps logo on the back and second printing cards a black one, and the second printing foils have a sand texture.
The First Movie release is one of the most nostalgic Pokemon crossovers ever printed, and sealed packs from 1999 continue to get harder to find as more are opened or graded.
